About Blackeye cameras

Blackeye cameras are IP (internet protocol) still cameras. Being designed as IP cameras makes it easy to connect to the camera via a browser (no special user application software required), because the application runs on the camera itself, just like a web application. There are essentially two modes of operation, one is of course the photo mode, when Blackeye is taking photos, and the other is host mode, when Blackeye is connected to your computer. In host mode you can use the control panel to set the photo rate, synchronise the Blackeye internal calendar, check the camera live view, and review and manage photo sessions. All Blackeye cameras have been designed to be be fully self contained for field operation, with significant power available from their internal Li-Ion batteries. Blackeye cameras are also designed for outdoor weatherproof operation and are built to IP65 (or better) specification.

About Blackeye Photo Sessions

Blackeye Photo Sessions are individual sessions of photos, for example over a night. You start a session by switching the camera on to take photos. The session ends when the camera is either switched off, or, it switches itself off due to low battery. (Blackeye's power management prevents over discharge of the internal batteries). You can start another session by switching the camera on again for more photos, and a new session with a new timestamp will be created. The file indexing of the the photo sessions has been very carefully designed (patent applied for) to rapidly locate and browse through very large photo archives. Each photo session is like a file in a file manager, and can be named, locked, downloaded, or deleted, independently of the other sessions. During continuous photography, when photo memory is full, Blackeye will start deleting older unlocked sessions to make room for new photos.

Blackeye cameras are Webservers

This means there is no application software to install. In fact, the application is a web application that runs on the camera.   Most Blackeye cameras connect via the USB cable, using a mode called ethernet over USB.  In most cases, you just type in the IP number of the Blackeye camera, and connect directly to the camera control panel and photo session manager [more].

Endurance Cameras - 2 weeks plus!

Need a couple of weeks of continuous unattended operation? No problem. With the new solar and 12V power supply, Blackeye cameras can operate for extended periods. For example, over 2 weeks continuous photography with a typical 12V car battery, or essentially unlimited with a solar panel. Check out the high endurance options, but for example, using the QVGA mode, a Blackeye2S with 64GB can record and store at 5 frames per second for 2 weeks, with automatic night vision at night. An amazing 6 million images, stored on the camera itself. Perfect for catching pests, burglars, or rare wildlife. If it happens in the field of view, you will catch it. And with Blackeye's intelligent motion detection image sorting software it is a quick and easy process to review this huge number of still photos to find the images of interest, without even having to download the image archive. Browse the whole photo sequence (or just the selected images of interest) directly off the camera over high speed USB or Bluetooth (on Bluetooth enabled cameras).
